FREDERICTON (CNB) - Nominations open today for six municipal byelections to be held Monday, Nov. 24. Nominations close at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, and candidates have until Monday, Nov. 3, to withdraw their names.
Byelections will be held in the following communities:
Elections New Brunswick hopes residents in these communities will consider running for these positions and has made the process for becoming a candidate easier.
"These are important positions, which allow people to give back to the communities where they live," Chief Electoral Officer Michael Quinn said. "We want to simplify the process for those people considering running."
Amendments to the province's Municipal Elections Act, passed by government last year, reduced the number of signatures required on a candidate's nomination papers to 10, down from the original 25. Nomination papers may be picked up from the municipal returning officer or local municipal offices, or can be printed from the Elections New Brunswick website, http://www.electionsnb.ca.
Elections New Brunswick is accepting the names and resumes of individuals interested in working during the election. Those may also be dropped off or faxed to the various municipal returning officers throughout the province or by going online.
