FREDERICTON (CNB) - Nominations open today for nine municipal byelections to be held Monday, Oct. 26. Nominations close at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, and candidates have until Monday, Oct. 5, to withdraw their names.
Byelections will be held in the following communities if more candidates are nominated than can be elected to fill the vacant positions:
Elections New Brunswick strongly encourages residents in these communities to consider running for these positions.
"These are important positions, which allow people to give back to the communities where they live," said Chief Electoral Officer Michael Quinn.
Amendments to the province's Municipal Elections Act reduced the number of signatures required on a candidate's nomination papers to 10 from 25 in order to make it easier to become a candidate. Nomination papers may be picked up from the municipal returning officer or local municipal offices, or may be printed from the Elections New Brunswick website.
Elections New Brunswick is accepting the names and resumés of individuals interested in working during the election. Those may also be dropped off or faxed to the various municipal returning officers throughout the province, or by going online.
