Drummond and Thériault finished a strong second to win their medal.

"It feels very good to win a medal," said Drummond following the race. "We had to work very hard to take second place. There was a bit of wind and it was not very hot on the water. We knew we had a good chance to win a medal from the start.  I saw a board last night (Wednesday) and noticed we had not won a medal yet. I told myself that we would win the first."

Thériault said winning this medal was a very exciting moment.

"It's the most important medal I have won," he said.  "We had to use our muscles and very good techniques to win. The race was very hard."

In wrestling competitions, Alberta won the bronze team medal, beating New Brunswick for third place.
