FREDERICTON (CNB) - Six new members have been appointed to the NB Public Libraries Board, Education Minister Elvy Robichaud announced today.
The new members are Aldéo-Régis Lévesque of Saint-Jacques, Robert Goguen of Moncton, Arisma Losier of Tracadie-Sheila, Donald Porter of Woodstock, Allard Robichaud of Shediac, and Janel Ouellet of Edmundston, who was appointed as the elected representative of the Haut-Saint-Jean Library Region Forum. Their term of office is three years. In addition, Fredericton representative John Teskey's term was renewed for a period of three years.
"Coming from the private sector and the education community, these new members bring a variety of experience to the NB Public Libraries Board," Robichaud said.
Established in 1997, the role of the NB Public Libraries Board is to advise the minister responsible for this sector on policy, service levels, and provincial standards for the provincial public library system. The board usually meets three to four times a year. The next meeting will take place on June 28 in Fredericton.
The NB Public Libraries Board consists of members appointed by the minister from the general public and an elected member from each of the five library region forums.
"The board plays a very important role," the minister said. "It gives us invaluable advice in the area of strategic planning for the development of the New Brunswick public library system."
The other members of the board are Anne Baker of Saint John, Sydney Butland of Riverview, Nick Barfoot of Saint John (elected representative of the Saint John Library Region Forum), Roger Doiron of Richibucto, Douglas J. Goss of McAdam (elected representative of the York Library Region Forum), Drew Kingston of Dalhousie (elected representative of the Chaleur Library Region Forum), and Lynne Owen of Sackville (elected representative of the Albert-Westmorland-Kent Library Region Forum).
