Summer hours extended at public libraries (04/09/20)

NB 1021

Sept. 20, 2004

FREDERICTON (CNB) - Summer operating hours have been temporarily extended for the province's public libraries in order to review the proposed fall schedule, Education Minister Madeleine Dubé said today.

"This extension will allow us to examine issues raised by some stakeholders as to new hours of operation that had been planned for many public libraries," she said. "This review will be done in consultation with each library region and will be completed as quickly as possible."

Among the issues being examined is the desire to have all public libraries with at least one full-time staff member open on Saturdays, the minister said.

Dubé said the department regrets any inconvenience to library patrons. "However, we believe the delay of the proposed fall schedule will allow us time to review the schedule of each of our libraries and, ultimately, to provide the best service possible to our patrons."

The fall schedule was to have started on Sept. 13.
