Public libraries to benefit from fundraising campaign (04/11/18)

Nov. 18, 2004

FREDERICTON (CNB) - The New Brunswick Public Libraries Foundation launched its first provincial fundraising campaign for public libraries and bookmobiles.

Strong Libraries, Stronger Communities is a campaign that is seeking support from individuals and corporations to increase the number of books and other materials in public libraries and bookmobiles. Foundation board members Roger Doiron and Susan Montague are the honorary co-chairs of the campaign.

"It is a pleasure to launch the first provincial fundraising campaign for New Brunswick's public libraries and bookmobiles," Doiron said. "The purpose of this campaign is to increase the number of children's books, books for adults, large print materials, and talking books for the visually impaired, and to generally improve the library collection in various areas."

Over the coming weeks, households in New Brunswick with an adult public library card holder will receive a campaign letter from the foundation that explains the various needs of public libraries and bookmobiles. The letter encourages individuals to make a donation to the foundation, and enables them to direct their donation to the subject area of their interest. Individuals who receive the letter also will have the option to request that their mailing information be permanently removed from the foundation's mailing list.

Through this fundraiser, New Brunswickers will have the opportunity to support a community institution that has a longstanding tradition of loyalty to the people of New Brunswick. The provincial government will match donations dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000.

"The campaign theme, Strong Libraries, Stronger Communities, demonstrates how important the relationship is between public libraries and bookmobiles and the communities they serve," Montague said. "By working together, we can achieve our goal of Strong Libraries, Stronger Communities and increase the number of books in public libraries and bookmobiles throughout our province."

The New Brunswick Public Libraries Foundation is a charitable organization that raises funds in support of New Brunswick's public library system. The activities of the foundation are overseen by a board of trustees who are responsible for the management of the foundation's trust fund.
