FREDERICTON (CNB) - Two new members have been appointed to the New Brunswick Public Libraries Board, Education Minister Madeleine Dubé announced today.
The new members are Norbert Gauvin from Islandview representing the public at large and Judith Wheaton of Central Blissville, representing the York Library Region Forum. Each appointment is for a three-year term.
"These new members bring a wide range of experience to the New Brunswick Public Libraries Board," Dubé said. "We are pleased that Mr. Gauvin and Ms. Wheaton have made a commitment to the work of the board."
Established in 1997, the New Brunswick Public Libraries Board advises the Minister of Education on policy, service levels, and provincial standards for the New Brunswick public library system. The board generally meets three times a year. Its next meeting is scheduled to be held in August at Fredericton.
"The board plays a very important role," Dubé said. "It gives us valuable advice on strategic directions for the development of New Brunswick's public library system."
The New Brunswick Public Libraries Board consists of several members appointed by the minister from the general public and five elected members, each representing one of the five library region forums.

The New Brunswick public library system provides access to a provincial collection of more than 1.9 million items, as well as to programs and services ranging from story hour to public lectures to services such as reference, inter-library loans, and Internet access.
