FREDERICTON (CNB) - The New Brunswick Public Library Service has launched a new online service that will provide research assistance to find answers to factual questions, Education Minister Madeleine Dubé announced today.
The service, called Quaestio, allows New Brunswickers to send questions via e-mail to a reference team of librarians. Users will receive an answer within two working days.
"This exciting initiative supports endeavours to foster a culture of lifelong learning, an objective of the Quality Learning Agenda," Dubé said. "Libraries are in the information business and Quaestio is a shining example of the diverse services that libraries provide their communities - both within and beyond the building walls."
To use this free online reference service, go to http://www.gnb.ca/publiclibraries and click on Quaestio.
"Users can ask questions on a variety of topics," Dubé said. "We can help find quotations, statistics, miscellaneous facts, product information or even track down that special recipe."
The New Brunswick public library system provides access to a provincial collection of more than 1.9 million items. It also provides access to programs, such as story hour and public lectures, and to services, such as reference, inter-library loans and Internet access.
