Public libraries closed in order to upgrade automated library system (05/12/12)

NB 1690

Dec. 12, 2005

FREDERICTON (CNB) - The New Brunswick Public Library Service (NBPLS) is reminding patrons that all New Brunswick public libraries and bookmobiles will be closed between Dec. 19, 2005, and Jan. 2, 2006, to permit the installation of a new automated library system.

To replace its existing Inlex system, the NBPLS is installing Unicorn, which will greatly enhance library service and better serve its patrons.

During the upgrade, extended loan periods are in effect at all public libraries and bookmobiles. All materials borrowed after Nov. 28, 2005, do not need to be returned until Jan. 20, 2006.

With the new Unicorn system, library users will notice a number of improvements, including:

The NBPLS provides access to a provincial collection of more than 1.9 million items, as well as to programs ranging from story hour to public lectures, and offers such services as reference, inter-library loans and Internet access.

More information about the NBPLS is available online at: www.gnb.ca/publiclibraries.
