Innovative Learning funding available to teachers (07/09/04)

FREDERICTON (CNB) - Teachers with innovative educational projects that will enhance student learning could be eligible for funding offered by the Department of Education through the Innovative Learning Fund, Education Minister Kelly Lamrock announced today.

The $5 million Innovative Learning Fund is part of the government's education plan, When Kids Come First, to build the best education system in the country.

"Innovative teachers know what it takes for children to learn," Lamrock said. "That is why through the Innovative Learning Fund, money will be made available to teachers and schools so they can create new and exciting learning environments for our kids."

The purpose of the Innovative Learning Fund is to provide financial support to innovative educators by investing in original projects, led by teachers and school teams, which can subsequently be shared with and replicated in other schools.

The fund is open to any teacher, school or school district that is part of the New Brunswick public education system.

The levels of funding for projects are:

“I have seen first-hand innovative projects being initiated by educators and schools throughout the province every day,” the minister said. “Allowing our teachers and schools to be innovative will help us move forward in achieving self-sufficiency for New Brunswick. I encourage all educators with an innovative teaching method that will strengthen student learning to apply for funding.

Project applications and detailed information about the application process are available to educators online through the New Brunswick Education Portal.
