The Innovative Learning Fund is part of the government's education plan, When Kids Come First, to build the best education system in the country.

"It is very exciting to see so many innovative projects that are aimed at enhancing and engaging student learning," Lamrock said. "Allowing our teachers and schools to be innovative will help us move forward in achieving self-sufficiency for New Brunswick."

The Innovative Learning Fund is designed to provide financial support to innovative educators by investing in original projects, led by teachers and school teams, which can subsequently be shared with and replicated in other schools. It is open to any teacher, school or school district that is part of the New Brunswick public education system.

In this first round of funding, 23 projects totalling $54,870 were approved for the anglophone sector and 25 projects totalling $58,733 were granted in the francophone sector. These Tier 1 projects are single classroom initiatives that were eligible for funding up to $2,500 each. The projects are linked with the commitments made in When Kids Come First in areas such as literacy, numeracy, science and technology, and positive interventions. Another round of Tier 1 funding will be announced in November.

Tier 2 projects, which are eligible for up to $20,000 each in funding, involve multiple classrooms in one or more schools and Tier 3 projects, which involve multiple classrooms in more than one school or district, are eligible for up to $100,000 each in funding. Funding for these projects will be announced by the end of the year.
