FREDERICTON (CNB) - Sixty-three Tier 1 innovative educational projects have been selected to receive funding totalling $145,660 from the Innovative Learning Fund, Education Minister Kelly Lamrock announced today.
The Innovative Learning Fund is a key component of When kids come first; government's plan for building the best education system in Canada.
"Allowing our teachers and schools to be innovative will help us move forward in achieving self-sufficiency for New Brunswick," Lamrock said. "I am very pleased that the Innovative Learning Fund supports innovative educational projects that are designed to enhance and engage student learning."
The purpose of the Innovative Learning Fund is to provide financial support to innovative educators by investing in original projects, led by teachers and school teams, which can subsequently be shared with and replicated in other schools. Any teacher, school or school district that is part of the New Brunswick public education system is eligible to apply for funding.
In this round of funding, 52 projects totalling $119,393 were approved for the anglophone sector and 11 projects totalling $26,267 were granted in the francophone sector. These Tier 1 projects are single classroom initiatives that were eligible for funding up to $2,500 each. The projects are linked with the commitments made in When kids come first in areas such as literacy, numeracy, science and technology, and positive interventions.
Tier 2 projects, which are eligible for up to $20,000 each in funding, involve multiple classrooms in one or more schools and Tier 3 projects, which involve multiple classrooms in more than one school or district, are eligible for up to $100,000 each in funding. Funding for these projects will be announced by the end of the year.
