FREDERICTON (CNB) - An appeal is being launched by the Department of Education to francophone high-school art classes to create a work of art for the 20th anniversary of Provincial French Pride Week, using the theme Francophones de tous les pays, venez fêter en Acadie.
"For the first time, students in high-school art classes will be able to submit an entry to the competition to create a work of art illustrating the theme of Provincial French Pride Week via their teacher," said Education Minister Kelly Lamrock. "This initiative is in keeping with the priorities of our education plan, When Kids Come First, which makes French schools a breeding ground for the development of Acadian and francophone pride in students."
Provincial French Pride Week promotes the French language and culture in New Brunswick's francophone schools, and is scheduled for March 2009.
A professional artist will collaborate on the artwork by the art class selected as the winner. The successful class will have a maximum budget of $2,000 to create the work, which must be completed by the end of November.
All submissions should be sent to Sylvain Lavoie, Place 2000, P.O. Box 6000, Fredericton, N.B. E3B 5H1. The deadline for submissions is 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10.
