FREDERICTON (CNB) - Nominations are now open for the Premier's Awards of Excellence in Education for individuals or groups that have made a significant contribution to education in the anglophone sector.
"These awards honour those in the education system who make a difference in students' lives and celebrate public education," Premier Shawn Graham said.
"I get the opportunity to experience the amazing work that goes on every day in our school system," said Education Minister Kelly Lamrock. "It is important to recognize the positive influence that all those who work in the education system have on our children and the role they play in building the best education system in Canada."
Recommendations for the Premier's Awards of Excellence in Education may be submitted by individuals or groups (for example, parent school support committees, home and school associations, student councils, branches of the teachers' association) in the nominee's school district.
Nomination forms are available online, or at any of the nine anglophone school district offices. The due date for nominations is Monday, Feb. 23.
The awards are presented in the following categories:
Category A: district awards - Each school district nominates an individual or group that has made a significant contribution to education in its area. Nominees may include, but not be limited to, a teacher, a volunteer, a business partner, or someone working within or with the school system in a support role.
Category B: provincial awards - Districts may select up to seven additional persons, or six groups of individuals, and one nominee for the lifetime achievement award, in the following subcategories:
