FREDERICTON (CNB) - Nominations are now open for the Premier's Awards of Excellence in Education for individuals or groups that have made a significant contribution to education in the anglophone sector.

"These awards recognize those dedicated individuals or groups that are making New Brunswick's education system the best in the country," said Premier Shawn Graham.

Recommendations for the award, which must be submitted online, may be made by individuals or groups such as parent school support committees; home and school associations; student councils; or branches of the New Brunswick Teachers' Association in the nominee's school district.

"It is important to acknowledge publicly the influence that all those who work in the education system have upon our children and to recognize the nominees for going that extra distance,"said Education Minister Roland Haché.

The awards are presented in the following categories:

Category A: district awards - Each school district nominates an individual or group that has made a significant contribution to education in its area. Nominees may include, but are not limited to, a teacher, a volunteer, a business partner, or someone working within or with the school system in a support role.

Category B: provincial awards - Districts may select up to seven additional persons, or six groups of individuals, and one nominee for the lifetime achievement award, in the following subcategories:
