FREDERICTON (CNB) - The slogan for the 2011 Provincial French Pride Week will be Une langue qui voyage, une culture qui se partage! (A language that travels, a culture for sharing).
Students chose the slogan suggested by École Arc-en-ciel in Oromocto, in School District 1, which makes it the first school to win a prize as part of the 2011 Provincial French Pride Week festivities.
"I am glad to see the students participating in the slogan selection process," said Education Minister Roland Haché. "In addition to being a democratic exercise, this contest helps young people to develop a greater sense of belonging with respect to their language and their francophone and Acadian culture."
Francophone students were invited to vote from March 31 to April 23 to determine the best slogan. More than 85 per cent of schools participated in the process. Among the slogans submitted under the theme La célébration de la langue et de la culture (A celebration of language and culture), five were selected as finalists.
2011 marks the 22nd year of celebrating Provincial French Pride Week. During this time, the students, school staff and their community partners will participate in a wide variety of cultural and educational events, including shows, games and contests that celebrate and promote the French language and Acadian and francophone culture in New Brunswick and beyond.
