FREDERICTON (CNB) - The provincial government is investing $330,000 in improvements to École Sainte-Anne and École des Bâtisseurs, two of seven schools in District 1 sharing $808,000 in capital funding during the current fiscal year.

Premier Shawn Graham made the announcement today during a visit to the two schools.

"By investing in quality school infrastructures, we are providing a better learning environment," said Graham. "Our government must focus on the success of young New Brunswickers to achieve self-sufficiency."

The funding will improve traffic and safety at École Sainte-Anne and École des Bâtisseurs. A new Regent Street entrance for school buses and staff as well as a new school bus loading zone are planned.

In addition to funding for renovations and upgrading in School District 1, the overall capital budget includes $5 million to complete École Sainte-Thérèse in Dieppe.

Education Minister Roland Haché reaffirmed the provincial government's commitment to the education plan When Kids Come First to ensure students, teachers and support staff a healthy, safe and modern learning environment.

"We will continue to invest and make the changes required to modernize New Brunswick's schools," said Haché. "Learning in an environment that is better adapted to their needs will give students better opportunities for success."
