FREDERICTON (CNB) - The New Brunswick winner of the Lester B. Pearson Scholarship is Danie Martin of Sainte-Anne-de-Kent, the Department of Education announced today.
"I congratulate Miss Martin on her sense of commitment to her school and on her tenacity in her studies," said Education Minister Roland Haché. "I am convinced that she will represent the values and excellence of New Brunswick students well at Lester B. Pearson College."
The scholarship, valued at $30,000 a year, will enable Martin to pursue a two-year International Baccalaureate at Lester B. Pearson College in British Columbia beginning in September.
Martin is a Grade 11 student at École Clément-Cormier in Bouctouche and will complete her high school studies at the college. This two-year program is equivalent to a Grade 12 year and a first year of university.
The scholarship is awarded annually to a New Brunswick student whose academic performance and involvement in the community are exceptional. Martin was chosen from among the anglophone and francophone finalists.
