FREDERICTON (CNB) - Gaëtan Thomas has been appointed interim president of NB Power, the utility's board of directors announced today.
Thomas has served as vice-president of NB Power Nuclear Corporation and as vice-president, Distribution and Customer Service (Disco).
As vice-president of NB Power Nuclear Corporation (Nuclearco), Thomas was responsible for management of the nuclear program with particular focus on business excellence and the successful completion of the refurbishment project at Point Lepreau.
Energy Minister Jack Keir said Thomas ensures continuity and brings considerable depth of experience as interim president.
"I have every confidence in his ability to do a great job in this role, and I know he will provide solid leadership to the entire NB Power team," Keir said. "His experience at Disco will serve him very well in understanding the critical customer service side of the business, and with his recent experience as head of Nuclearco, he is very well-positioned to help us continue to pressure Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. and the federal government to ensure they complete the Point Lepreau refurbishment as quickly as possible."
Francis McGuire, chairman of the NB Power board of directors, said Thomas is known as a strong team-builder.
"As a former vice-president, NB Power Distribution and Customer Service, he knows and understands both the challenges and opportunities that face NB Power in its new role," McGuire said. "Gaëtan has worked in virtually every region in New Brunswick from Eel River to Moncton, from Saint John to Fredericton, and all points in between."
