Public review process begins for Clover Leaf Seafoods, L.P. (08/10/09)

FREDERICTON (CNB) - The 180-day public participation process to renew the air quality operating approval for Clover Leaf Seafoods, L.P. is underway, Environment Minister Roland Haché has announced.

Clover Leaf Seafoods, L.P. is a herring processing and fishmeal plant located in Blacks Harbour. The current air quality operating approval expires on April 14, 2009.

The Public Participation Regulation under the Clean Air Act calls for a public participation process to be conducted prior to the issuance or renewal of approvals to operate for Class 1 sources of emissions. This process contains a number of information requirements and minimum time frames in relation to the public review, including a 120-day public comment period scheduled for Oct. 7, 2008, to Feb. 3, 2009. All comments should be submitted in writing.

"We encourage the public to take part in this process," Haché said. "It's an opportunity to learn more about this facility, and to submit written comments in regard to the air quality operating approval."

The process covers air-quality-related issues, including questions or comments regarding air emissions, pollution-control equipment, conditions proposed in the draft approval, monitoring and reporting requirements, and information on enforcement and compliance.
