CAMPBELLTON (CNB) - A ceremony was held this afternoon to honour Talya Doucet, the recipient of the 2009 Environmental Leadership Award in the Youth category.
Environment Minister Rick Miles presented Doucet with a framed pewter medal and a certificate for a tree that can be planted to commemorate her achievements.
"The community of Campbellton should be very proud of the work Talya has done to protect and promote the environment," said Miles. "She is vice-chair of her school's environment committee and has participated in school recycling initiatives, clean-up efforts, tree sales, petitions and environmental training workshops."
Doucet is a liaison officer with the New Brunswick Environmental Network and represents her environment committee and school at the provincial level.
"I commend Talya for working to ensure the environment is a priority in this part of New Brunswick," said Miles. "She is certainly setting a positive example for her peers and is helping create an environmentally sustainable and self-sufficient province."
The Environmental Leadership Awards are presented annually to individuals, groups and businesses demonstrating exceptional leadership in the enhancement and protection of the environment. A panel of independent judges selects the recipients. Information about the awards is online.
