FREDERICTON (CNB) - This year the Department of Environment celebrates 40 years of protecting and promoting the environment. The anniversary was marked at the legislature today by Environment Minister Rick Miles.
"This is an important milestone for the department," said Miles. "It has come a long way since its creation and, as the 18th minister of Environment, I am proud of all the department has accomplished. New Brunswick has become a leader on environmental issues with other jurisdictions looking to us for leadership and examples of how to create meaningful environmental policy."
The department's accomplishments include:
"The Department of Environment will continue to work to improve, protect and promote the environment for current and future generations of New Brunswickers," said Miles. "We have accomplished a lot and we will accomplish more for the people of this province."
The department has a budget of $12 million and employs 225 people in Fredericton and in regional offices in Bathurst, Grand Falls, Fredericton, Moncton, Saint John and Miramichi.
