FREDERICTON (CNB) - The provincial government is investing more than $1,382,320 from the Environmental Trust Fund (ETF) this year in 56 projects in the Fredericton area and southwest region.

Environment Minister Rick Miles made the announcement today.

"The ETF provides much needed support to many worthy projects in our province," said Miles. "Our government is strongly committed to promoting environmental sustainability and supporting environmental stewardship."

Each year the ETF provides significant support to community-based initiatives to restore, improve, preserve and protect air, land and water resources in New Brunswick.

The department announced in April that almost $4 million from the ETF would be invested in 172 environmental projects throughout New Brunswick in 2010-11.

Revenue for the fund comes from about half of the environmental fee paid on redeemable beverage containers in New Brunswick.
