NEW MARYLAND (CNB) - The provincial government will invest $10,000 from the Environmental Trust Fund (ETF) in the Village of New Maryland's alternative transportation plan, Environment Minister Rick Miles announced today.

"Each year, the ETF provides millions of dollars in funding to many worthy projects that benefit the environment in our province," said Miles. "I am pleased that the ETF was able to support this important environmental project being undertaken by the Village of New Maryland."

The village will develop a master trail plan to encourage alternative methods of commuting while preserving the natural environment.

Each year, the ETF provides significant support to community-based initiatives to restore, improve, preserve and protect air, land and water resources in New Brunswick.

The department announced in April that almost $4 million from the ETF would be invested in 172 environmental projects in 2010-11.
