AV Cell Inc. ordered to pay $25,000 for violating Clean Air Act (10/06/28)

NB 1105

June 28, 2010

CAMPBELLTON (CNB) - AV Cell Inc. of Atholville has been ordered to pay a total of $25,000 after pleading guilty in Campbellton provincial court of violating the Clean Air Act.

Judge Steven Hutchinson fined the company $10,000 and required it to make a donation of $15,000 to the Restigouche County Volunteer Action Association. This money will go toward replacing the local soup kitchen's supplies recently lost in a fire at its warehouse.

On July 14, 2009, the company experienced an equipment malfunction in a recovery boiler. This resulted in the release of excessive soot into the air, affecting 19 adjacent properties.
