FREDERICTON (CNB) - Senior Goodwill Ambassadors representing New Brunswick's 15 counties are now at the midpoint of their two-year term, and met recently in Miramichi for their annual meeting.
The ambassadors intend to continue promoting pride in New Brunswick, to people who live in the province as well as to people "from away". This is done in a variety of ways, including talking to groups and participating in local community events.
The success of the program since its beginnings in the early 1990s has been immeasurable. Senior Goodwill Ambassadors have been involved in everything from ribbon-cutting ceremonies and presentations in the community, to greeting cruise ships, tour buses and airplanes.
This group of seniors are involved with individuals of all ages. Some read New Brunswick Legends to school children, seniors and every age in between. They are available to greet visitors, address community groups, take part in and sometimes organize community activities and encourage travellers to stay an extra day or two in New Brunswick. They are also available for conferences, presentations, and educating tourists on the sights to be seen in their county.
There are currently 33 Senior Goodwill Ambassadors who promote a positive image of New Brunswick. Of these, Alan Corkum and Percy Huntington (both of Queens County) are newly appointed. Exina Martin (Northumberland County) has been re-appointed.
The ambassadors have a wealth of knowledge and experience regarding New Brunswick, and they have been entrusted with helping spread the word that New Brunswick is a great place, and we should be proud of it.
