Task Force leader Claudette Bradshaw and her team spent seven months visiting communities and gathering information about the work and challenges of non-profit organizations throughout the province. The consultation process began with the formation of the task force in December 2006.

"This report presents an authentic portrait of the community-based non-profit sector," Bradshaw said. "We hope this will help to guide government in policy development, and in building a stronger relationship between the government and New Brunswick communities."

After hearing over 1,000 presentations and commentaries, the task force compiled a draft report, which was further reviewed by about 125 representatives of non-profit organizations.

"The task force is greatly indebted to all those organizations and individuals who took the time from their invaluable work to come and speak with us," Bradshaw said. "We are confident that this report accurately reflects their issues and concerns. At the same time, it reveals the depth of the community-based non-profit sector, the range of services it provides, and the foundation of caring on which it is so firmly grounded. The dedicated staff and volunteers in the non-profit sector make a huge and often unappreciated contribution to the economy and quality of life in New Brunswick.

"We have an excellent opportunity to move New Brunswick forward by developing a stable and productive partnership which will benefit every sector, every community, every family, and every individual in the province," Bradshaw said. "We have done it before and we can do it again."
