FREDERICTON (CNB) - Fourteen public meetings will take place across the province in January and February 2009 as part of the development of a poverty reduction plan for New Brunswick.
The meetings represent the dialogue phase of the public engagement initiative: Bringing the pieces together. This initiative gives New Brunswickers the opportunity to become involved in reducing and preventing poverty.
"The success of this initiative requires participation from everyone: the community non-profit organizations, businesses, universities, residents and governments," said Social Development Minister Mary Schryer. This is a unique opportunity to rethink policies in helping people living in poverty."
The public engagement initiative is to be completed by the end of 2009, and will be conducted in three stages: a dialogue phase; a round-table phase; and a final forum phase. The result will be the publication of a poverty reduction plan for New Brunswick.
The process will be under the supervision of a leadership team composed of a representative from each of the provincial government, the business sector and the non-profit community.
Interested individuals and organizations may participate in the sessions to discuss how to reduce poverty; to determine how to implement actions; and to decide how the plan will be monitored. They may also forward suggestions by using e-mail, fax, regular mail, or through the website. Those interested in participating are invited to register in advance by calling 1-888-315-6606. More information may be found online.
