Team NB artists selected for the V Games of La Francophonie in Niger, Africa (05/06/09)

FREDERICTON (CNB) - Three New Brunswick artists have been selected to represent the Province at the V Games of La Francophonie to be held in Niamey, Niger from Dec. 7 - 17, 2005. The announcement was made today by Intergovernmental and International Relations Minister Percy Mockler, Minister responsible for the Culture and Sport Secretariat.

The members of Team Canada - New Brunswick who will represent New Brunswick in the cultural competitions are:

"By participating in the V Games of La Francophonie, young people can learn more about other cultures while showcasing New Brunswick talent," Mockler said. "New Brunswickers are proud of our talented artists who have been selected to represent our province on the international stage."

The Jeux de la Francophonie are an international cultural and sporting event in which athletes and artists participate from states and governments which are members of La Francophonie. The games are the only major international event in which both artists and athletes compete, and gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded.

The final selection of New Brunswick artists was made by the Games of La Francophonie International Committee and the Agence intergouvernementale de la Francophonie. Team Canada-New Brunswick has participated in all four previous Games of La Francophonie in Maroc, Paris, Madagascar and Ottawa/Hull.
