BEIRUT, Lebanon (CNB) - James McManus lost by judge's decision against Kepika Mandembo of Congo to place fifth overall in Wednesday's judo competition at the 6th Games of La Francophonie being held in Beirut, Lebanon.
McManus won his first match in the +100 kilogram category, winning by ippon against El Medhi Malki of Morocco in the third minute. He lost by ippon against Ja Bala Faysal of Tunisia to qualify for the evening's bronze medal game. The score was 0-0 after five minutes and a supplementary period.
Vanessa St-Pierre of Quispamsis lost by ippon against Hanae Karrouni of Morocco in the -57 kilogram category.
In boxing, Adam Goguen of Saint John lost 7-4 on points against Tunisian Hassen Chaktemi. Goguen is eliminated from further competition. In beach volleyball, the men's team of Corey Akerley and Michael Waugh won 2-0 over Ivory Coast by scores of 21-18 and 21-8. The women's team of Jillian Blanchard and Cherie Campbell lost 2-0 against Canada-Quebec by scores of 10-21 and 13-21.
