FREDERICTON (CNB) - Hugh Doherty, assistant local service manager, has been appointed supervisor for the Village of Riverside-Albert, Local Government Minister Bernard LeBlanc announced today.
"The appointment of a supervisor will ensure the continuation of services to the residents of Riverside-Albert," said LeBlanc. "Mr. Doherty will oversee and direct the day-to-day operations of the municipality, including its financial administration, in collaboration with Deborah Murray-Butland, the village clerk-treasurer."
The appointment of a supervisor is necessary following the recent resignation of the village's mayor. The resignation, combined with the current vacant council seat, resulted in council no longer being able to hold a quorum to make decisions for the municipal corporation of Riverside-Albert.
Pursuant to the Control of Municipalities Act, the municipality must be placed under supervision of the province when resignations result in an insufficient number of council members to constitute a quorum.
Doherty's appointment will be effective until a new council is elected and holds its first meeting.
