FREDERICTON (CNB) - Adolphe Goulette, former chief administrative officer of the village of Charlo, has been appointed supervisor for the Village of Saint-Hilaire, Local Government Minister Chris Collins announced today.
"The appointment of a supervisor will ensure the continuation of services to the residents of Saint-Hilaire," said Collins. "Mr. Goulette will oversee and direct the day-to-day operations of the municipality, including its financial administration, in collaboration with Doris Blanchard, the local service manager in Edmundston, who has been appointed to the village as the interim treasurer."
The appointment of a supervisor is necessary following two recent resignations at council and the resignation of the village clerk-treasurer, which resulted in council no longer being able to hold a quorum.
In accordance with the Control of Municipalities Act, the municipality must be placed under supervision of the province when resignations result in an insufficient number of council members to constitute a quorum.
Goulette's appointment will be effective until a new council is elected and holds its first meeting.
