HAUTE-ABOUJAGANE (CNB) - The provincial government is providing financial assistance to the Haute-Aboujagane fire department in the Rural Community of Beaubassin East to upgrade communication equipment and install a communications tower.
"The fire department's current system does not have coverage in all areas that it is supposed to cover," said Business New Brunswick Minister Victor Boudreau. "Therefore, this new equipment will cover all necessary geographic locations. The project consists of installing a communication tower in the southern region - replacing the UHF radio system in the fire hall and vehicles with VHF to enhance radio communications between emergency first-responders."
Boudreau was speaking on behalf of local Government Minister Chris Collins.
"We are pleased to provide this financial assistance," said Boudreau. "We believe this new communications equipment will be a valuable asset to volunteer firefighters. This kind of collaborative partnership between local service districts, firefighters and the Government of New Brunswick is essential as we work to become a self-sufficient province."
The Haute-Aboujagane fire department will receive $150,000 to finalize the installation of specialized communication equipment.
Each year, the Department of Local Government invests $500,000 in capital projects to help local service districts buy emergency equipment and maintain fire halls and recreational facilities.
