Province to help three rural communities (10/07/12)

FREDERICTON (CNB) - The provincial government is providing financial assistance to the local service districts (LSDs) of Manners Sutton, Pointe-Sapin, and Wickham to help them with community improvement projects. Local Government Minister Chris Collins made the announcement today.

"Assisting communities with their local infrastructure is important to the Government of New Brunswick," said Collins. "Our government is committed to work in partnership with local governments to ensure safe and adequate community infrastructure are built and maintained for all New Brunswickers."

Each year, the Department of Local Government invests $500,000 in capital projects to help LSDs buy emergency equipment and maintain fire halls and recreational facilities. In 2010-11, the department is providing a total of $215,000 to Manners Sutton, Pointe-Sapin and Wickham to start projects that will improve services to their residents during this calendar year.

The projects:

"I am pleased that the Department of Local Government is participating in the government's goal to build self-sufficient communities in New Brunswick and improve services for all New Brunswickers," said Collins. "Today's funding will be used to ensure that New Brunswick's communities enjoy a high quality of life and feel safe and protected."
