Volunteers awarded for encouraging healthy lifestyles (08/11/17)

FREDERICTON (CNB) - Ten individuals and groups from across the province were recognized today for their volunteer activities to promote addiction awareness and healthy living.


The winners of the 2008 Community Star Awards were honoured at a ceremony at Old Government House in Fredericton to mark Addiction Awareness Week in New Brunswick.

The recipients were:

"I congratulate this year's award winners and commend them for their outstanding work to help New Brunswickers in making healthier choices," said Health Minister Michael Murphy.

Community Star Awards are presented annually in recognition of the volunteer efforts of individuals and groups to help their communities be healthier and safer.

"I hope that the work of each award winner will inspire others to be volunteers in their communities and to foster healthy lifestyles in our province," Murphy said. "I encourage all New Brunswickers to take part in the promotion of healthy communities so that every resident can be well and join our province's efforts to reach self-sufficiency by 2026."

Addiction services are a key component of Transforming New Brunswick's Health-care System: the Provincial Health Plan, 2008-12, released in April.
