FREDERICTON (CNB) - The week of Oct. 18 - 24 is being observed as Spiritual and Religious Care Awareness Week in health-care facilities in New Brunswick and across Canada, Health Minister Mary Schryer announced today.
The theme for 2009 is Hope for a New Beginning, which is intended to reinforce individuals' commitment to support and value the services offered by spiritual and religious care providers.
"Spiritual well-being is recognized as an essential aspect of wellness and a determinant of health," said Schryer. "We are very fortunate in New Brunswick to have a team of dedicated spiritual and religious care-providers who are an integral part of the health-care team."
Spiritual care is recognized by the Regional Health Authorities as an essential part of the holistic care of patients, and is provided by a combination of staff and volunteers.
