Province to take part in Jeux de la francophonie canadienne (02/07/11)

FREDERICTON (CNB) - The New Brunswick government will take part in the second Jeux de la francophonie canadienne, to be held at Rivière-du-Loup from Aug. 1 - 5, 2002. The province will fund the torch relay for the games, which will begin at Memramcook, where the first games were held in August 1999.

"These games will energize New Brunswick youth," said Tourism and Parks Minister Paul Robichaud, Minister responsible for La Francophonie. "We are proud of the vitality of our young people and their commitment to the Canadian Francophonie."

The torch relay will be run by young New Brunswick athletes to the Quebec border. La Fédération des Jeunes francophones du Nouveau-Brunswick (FJFNB) is co-ordinating the participation of the New Brunswick delegation, made up of 87 athletes and 17 accompanying officials. New Brunswick 's chef de mission is Éric Larocque.

Robichaud wished the members of the New Brunswick delegation wholehearted success.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 17 (EDMUNDSTON - SAINT-JACQUES AREA -- TRANSFER OF THE TORCH)

2:30 - 3:30 p.m.: News conference for the transfer of the torch from New Brunswick to Quebec. Representatives of the Quebec government and of the town of Rivière-du-Loup will be pre sent. Speeches by ministers Jeannot Volpé and Paul Robichaud.
