Board members sought for New Brunswick Credit Union Deposit Insurance Corp. (08/10/02)

FREDERICTON (CNB) - Opportunities are now available for four New Brunswickers to serve on the board of the New Brunswick Credit Union Deposit Insurance Corp. (NBCUDIC).

"We are looking for board members with strong skills, knowledge and experience in the areas of accounting or financial management, banking, corporate law, risk management, consumer issues relating to financial institutions, and corporate government," said Minister of Justice and Consumer Affairs T.J. Burke.

The NBCUDIC was established, and obtains its mandate and authority, under Part XIII of the Credit Unions Act. Its purposes are to:

The board will consist of seven members: the deputy minister of finance or a designate; the deputy minister of justice and consumer affairs or a designate; the superintendent of credit unions; and four persons to be appointed by the minister of justice and consumer affairs. Members of the board who are appointed have a term of up to three years and are eligible for re-appointment for a maximum of nine consecutive years.

"Opening the appointment process reflects the government's commitment to improve the way appointments are made," Burke said.
