FREDERICTON (CNB) - Hundreds of people braved chilly temperatures to enjoy musical entertainment, refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus at the annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony at the Legislative Assembly.

Among those participating were Lt.-Gov. Herméngilde Chiasson; Premier Shawn Graham; Speaker Roy Boudreau; Opposition Leader David Alward; York MLA Carl Urquhart; and chaplain Keith Joyce. The tree was lit by Fredericton-Silverwood MLA Rick Miles and his son, Jack.

Hot apple cider and hot chocolate were served by park officers and wardens from Mactaquac Provincial Park. Festive candles and treats for the children were distributed by Fredericton-area Guides. Entertainment was provided by St. Paul's United Church senior choir and Priestman Street School choir.
