NBIB to provide information on automobile insurance (06/05/19)

NB 634

May 19, 2006

SAINT JOHN (CNB) - The New Brunswick Insurance Board, in collaboration with the consumer advocate for insurance, today announced that it will visit seven communities in the province in the first phase of a public-information program to provide information on auto insurance to New Brunswickers.

Members of the board will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on automobile insurance in the province. Ronald Godin, the consumer advocate for insurance, will also be on hand to provide information, answer questions and to provide assistance on individual matters.

"This is a very good opportunity for New Brunswick drivers to find out how insurance reforms have lowered rates," said Paul D'Astous, chair of the New Brunswick Insurance Board. "We urge all drivers to compare, consult and choose when shopping for automobile insurance. It is the consumer's right to shop around and we encourage everyone to do so in order to get the best rate. This will continue to lead to more competition in the marketplace, and will help keep rates as low as possible."

"This is a great opportunity for New Brunswickers to meet with my office in person if they are having issues with their specific claims," Godin said. "The Office of the Consumer Advocate for Insurance is pleased to be taking part in these open house sessions. Consumers experiencing any issues with their policies or rates are encouraged to come out to see us, or to call our toll-free line at 1-888-283-5111."

The New Brunswick Insurance Board was established in 2004 as the regulatory agency that approves rates for automobile-insurance products. Its mission is to ensure that New Brunswick rates are just and reasonable; are based on New Brunswick-driver experience; are based on New Brunswick-company experience; and are comparable to other provinces in Atlantic Canada. It also fulfils a stewardship role by educating New Brunswick ratepayers about their role and responsibility with regard to auto insurance.
