FREDERICTON (CNB) - The Point Lepreau generating station will participate in a one-day security exercise on Saturday, Nov. 28.
The exercise will involve the Point Lepreau Nuclear Response Force team and police agencies, and will test security contingency procedures as required by the Nuclear Safety and Control Act.
Area residents may see emergency response vehicles in the community, and hear radio communications simulating a security event at the station.
"The purpose of this exercise is to measure the effectiveness of the security emergency response strategy, and verify that all components of the strategy are in place," said Doug Parker, station director for the station. "Exercises of this nature continue to confirm that we maintain a state of readiness at the station in the event of a security emergency."
Point Lepreau has an emergency response plan that is practised regularly. The station conducts regular emergency drills involving local and provincial emergency response agencies.
