NB Power warns customers about telephone scam (10/03/17)

NB 374

March 17, 2010

FREDERICTON (CNB) - NB Power has received numerous calls from customers who have been solicited by someone offering a device for sale that can save them up to 40 per cent on their electricity bills. It is believed that the caller claims that he/she is calling on behalf of NB Power, or that he/she is calling on behalf of "your electricity provider" or " your hydro provider."

NB Power is not selling such devices, nor has it approved any such device, and recommends that customers contacted by persons making such claims report the incident immediately to their local police force, the RCMP, or PhoneBusters at 1-888-495-8501 or online.

NB Power reminds its customers to be cautious when receiving telephone calls offering products or services, and to never provide credit card information when such calls are received. In addition, personal or financial information should not be disclosed over the telephone. Individuals should not be afraid to say no and hang up. If in doubt, contact NB Power to enquire about any ongoing campaign or initiative.
