NACKAWIC (CNB) - Members of the non-profit sector and groups in the Central region are invited to attend a regional conference on Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 27, in Nackawic. Minister of State for Seniors Brian Kenny, who is also minister responsible for the community non-profit organizations secretariat, will participate.
"Having recently returned from a national conference for the non-profit sector, I am looking forward to meeting and sharing information with the hardworking non-profit groups from the Central region of our province," Kenny said. "We will also be working on the development of a community action plan as we discuss ways to empower the non-profit sector and move toward our goal of self-sufficiency."
The conference is co-hosted by the secretariat and Partners for Youth. Discussions will focus on the Delivering on the Blueprint document, creating partnerships between the non-profit sector and government, and sharing updates on the progress of the secretariat.
"I want to stress that we have moved past the consultation process," Kenny explained. "These regional conferences are engaging our stakeholders in the implementation of a strategic plan for the non-profit sector."
The conference is the sixth in a series of seven being held throughout the province. The next conference will take place on March 28 in the Southwest region. A full list is available online.
Registration is available on the secretariat's website, or by telephone at 888-295-4545. Assistance with transportation to the conferences is available.
During consultations by the Premier's Task Force on the Community Non-Profit Sector, organizations and people from across the province spoke about the expectations of and the challenges facing the sector in their respective regions. Delivering on the Blueprint is the government's response to the task force's report, Blueprint for Action, which was released in September 2007.
