FREDERICTON (CNB) - The provincial government will continue to raise awareness about the non-profit sector in the coming fiscal year and provide information, support, training and networking opportunities for community volunteers and non-profit organizations. Minister of State for Seniors Brian Kenny, who is also minister responsible for the Community Non-Profit Organizations Secretariat, made the announcement today during main estimates.
The Secretariat's operating budget will be $378,000 in 2010-11, down slightly from $389,000 in 2009-10.
"Working in partnership with the Secretariat's advisory committee, staff will continue to raise awareness about the work of the non-profit sector and the value of volunteerism in building our province," Kenny said. "Government has made progress in Delivering on the Blueprint, and will continue efforts to strengthen and work more closely with non-profit groups for a better and more self-sufficient New Brunswick."
Kenny said the secretariat's initiatives include:
Over the coming months, non-profit groups will also have access to professional development and training opportunities offered by the Office of Human Resources. Courses are available include: working effectively with people; leadership and team building; communication; conducting effective meetings; project management; supervision and delegation, and conflict resolution.
