FREDERICTON (CNB) - Minister of State for Seniors Brian Kenny, who is also minister responsible for Community Non-Profit Organizations, issued the following statement in recognition of National Volunteer Week from April 18-24.
There is no better way to make a difference in your community than by becoming a volunteer. It is a great opportunity to share your ideas, talent and experience; to build relationships and to develop caring communities for a stronger, more self-sufficient province. Volunteering also presents our youth with an opportunity to learn, network and build their resume for the future.
New Brunswickers volunteer more than 50 million hours a year. They work 24,000 full-time jobs without pay for causes they care about.
National Volunteer Week pays tribute to these dedicated individuals who donate their time and energy toward helping others. Across Canada, about 12 million volunteers devote themselves to charitable work and non-profit organizations.
I thank and congratulate the thousands of volunteers in our province who contribute to our quality of life in New Brunswick. We appreciate the unending work they perform to make New Brunswick a better place to be.
