NB 339

March 24, 2004

FREDERICTON (CNB) - The Province and the Association of New Brunswick Professional Educators signed a five-year contract today.

"I want to congratulate both bargaining teams who worked extremely hard at the bargaining table to reach an agreement within the financial parameters set by the government," Human Resources Minister Rose-May Poirier said. "The deal is reasonable for employees and fair to the taxpayers of New Brunswick."

The new contract includes average wage increases of 2.5 per cent a year, plus additional adjustments for some classifications.

"I am pleased that we have reached a long term agreement with these employees," Training and Employment Development Minister Margaret-Ann Blaney said. "They play an important role in the NBCC network and help make it a success every day. I look forward to their continued contribution to their respective campuses."

The Association of New Brunswick Professional Educators represents about 170 employees within the NBCC network and the Department of Training and Employment Development. These education program officers work as department heads, guidance counsellors, student service co-ordinators and curriculum development officers.
