MIRAMICHI (CNB) -Fatkat Animation Studios will add new employees to its payroll after receiving funding from the Province of New Brunswick, Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Ed Doherty announced today.
Thanks to $192,000 in funding from the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour, the Miramichi-based company will see the addition of 15 new employees to its staff. The new employees will be recent post-secondary graduates who have specialized in the field of animation.
"Fatkat is evidence that the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in New Brunswick," said Doherty. "This is one of Atlantic Canada's premier leaders in animation, and I am pleased that we are able to help them increase their staff size through the Workforce Expansion program."
"We're extremely happy to receive this support from the provincial government," company president Gene Fowler said. "It has enabled us to forge new goals and execute on new initiatives that will be the yellow brick road to our future. I'm personally energized by how the local community and government agencies rally around us and help us move forward...it's very motivating."
Fatkat is a highly successful commercial animation and graphics studio that has already developed a number of animated series. They also produce commercials and videos as well as other projects for their clients, ad agencies and producers. In addition, the company is currently working on a series for Comedy Central and a music video for Tarofish Animation. Although Fatkat works on a variety of different projects, the company's passion is series development.
"By providing companies like Fatkat with opportunities to expand and attract new resources, we are sending a strong message to New Brunswickers that economic development is a major priority for us," Doherty said. "As the information technology industry in New Brunswick continues to show steady growth and potential, government will be there to assist in anyway it can."
Doherty also said initiatives such as this are important steps to helping the province achieve its goal of becoming self-sufficient by the year 2025.
