FREDERICTON (CNB) -- The following statement on the death of Harrison McCain was issued today by Premier Bernard Lord:
"It was with profound sadness that we learned today of the passing of businessman, philanthropist and community leader Harrison McCain of Florenceville.
Harrison McCain was a major contributor to the social, cultural and economic well-being of Florenceville and New Brunswick and his passing is a substantial loss for our province and our country.
Mr. McCain formed McCain Foods, Ltd. in 1956 with his younger brother Wallace, which has grown from its base in Carleton Country to become one of the largest frozen food companies in the world.
In his more than 40 years in the food industry, Harrison McCain received many honours for his work and his contributions to his community, his province, his country and to the business world. He was named an Officer of the Order of Canada and received many honorary degrees and awards both here in New Brunswick and nationally.
It was for his commitment and his dedication to his province and to its development that we were honoured to include Harrison McCain as one of the inaugural inductees into the Order of New Brunswick.
On behalf of the Province of New Brunswick, I want to express my condolences to the McCain family and to the residents of the Florenceville region for their loss."
