FREDERICTON (CNB) - The following is a message from Premier Shawn Graham on the occasion of Remembrance Day, Tuesday Nov. 11.
On Remembrance Day, we honour the sacrifices of Canadian soldiers and peacekeepers throughout history: men and women who left the comforts of home behind and set out to try and make the world a better place. Through two world wars, and many other conflicts, brave Canadians have served on battlefields in the hopes that others would not have to. Many gave their lives to this just cause.
Even today, Canadian troops continue to serve peace throughout the world. Our mission in Afghanistan continues. Brave Canadians continue to lay their lives on the line in the hope of bringing peace to a war-torn part of the world. Among them are soldiers from, and who are based in, New Brunswick.
It is in honour of their sacrifices and dedication that we, as Canadians and New Brunswickers, take time on this day to remember them. We remember their sacrifices, their bravery and their contributions to peace.
The poppies we wear and the ceremonies we attend are more than just formalities. They are the least we can do to show that the sacrifices of these brave men and women are not in vain. I urge you to take part in these traditions, and to reflect upon their contributions to our way of life.
