Premier's Christmas message (08/12/17)

NB 1842

Dec. 17, 2008

FREDERICTON (CNB) - Following is a Christmas message from Premier Shawn Graham:

The Christmas season is upon us, and it brings with it the usual trappings - the tree-trimmings and the holiday baking; the parades; and the concerts. And, of course, the presents. We race through the malls looking for the latest video game. We spend hours searching for just the thing for the child who has everything. We fill our carts and head home to fill our stockings.

In the Christmas rush, it is sometimes easy to forget the many gifts that cost nothing but mean everything - the gifts that don't come wrapped in boxes or bows, the gifts that surround us throughout the year.

In a world where many live in poverty, where the very basics of life seem far out of reach, we have been given opportunity and comfort.

In a world where so many live in the midst of conflict and strife, we've been blessed with security and safety.

In a world where many are alone, we are embraced by our family, our friends and our community.

I hope each of us will take time to reflect on these gifts, to count our blessings and to pass on a little of what we've been given to those who need it most - not only at Christmas but through the whole year.

My wife, Roxanne, and I want to thank each of you for the warmth and generosity you have shown us during this past year. From our home to yours, we wish you the most joyous holiday season and a bright and prosperous new year.
